About Stepes: Stepes stands at the forefront of the localization industry, delivering cutting-edge multilingual translation solutions to a diverse global clientele. We seek an experienced and versatile Localization Engineer to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves working with an array of content types and systems, ensuring that we provide our clients with professional translation services that are seamless, efficient, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. File Preparation & Management:
    • Pre-process files to prepare them for translation, ensuring they are optimized for CAT tools.
    • Post-process translated files to ensure proper formatting and functionality.
  2. File Analysis & Extraction:
    • Analyze and extract translatable content from an array of file types.
    • Collaborate with project managers to provide accurate word counts, cost estimates, and timelines based on file analysis.
  3. Translation Tag & Error Management:
    • Rectify translation tag discrepancies and ensure consistency across all localized content.
    • Diagnose and resolve localization bugs such as truncated text, corrupted characters, and layout issues.
  4. Scripting & Automation:
    • Develop and maintain scripts to automate repetitive tasks, improve workflows, or integrate tools.
    • Customize CAT tools and other software to meet project-specific requirements.
  5. Quality Assurance:
    • Coordinate with linguistic and testing teams to conduct multilingual quality assurance (QA) checks.
    • Implement feedback loops to continuously refine and enhance the localization process.
  6. Technical Consultation:
    • Offer technical expertise to other departments, guiding them on best practices and potential challenges in localization.
    • Train translators and other team members on new tools or procedures when necessary.
  7. Stay Updated:
    • Attend industry conferences, workshops, and webinars to stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in localization.
    • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to the company’s localization knowledge base.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in localization engineering or a similar technical role.
  • Proficient in a range of CAT tools and familiar with industry-standard software and platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end localization process.
  • Strong scripting or programming skills are a plus.

Desirable Skills:

  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
  • Experience with multimedia localization, including elearning, audio, video, and graphics.
  • knowledge of software localization, hands-on experience working with various resource file types.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based translation platforms and APIs.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
